Worry About Feeding a White Dog in a Dream
Dogs are a cherished part of the family, but that doesn't mean that they can't also match your personal aesthetic. If you vibe specifically with white dogs, whether they are big and playful or small and cuddly, we've got good news! There are plenty of dogs that come in white while also being excellent companions.
To help you out, we'd love to introduce you to ten of what we think are the most awesome white dog breeds around. We're just positive that you'll find one that you can't live without.
#1) The Poodle
When you hear the word "poodle," a specific image might pop into your mind – probably a pristine little pooch with a perfectly cut coiffe. You know the one… with those poofs of hair around their feet and on their derrière.
While there are definitely "those" poodles out there, poodles are so much more than just primped-up show dogs. They actually come in three distinct sizes – standard, miniature, and toy. They are incredibly intelligent creatures and learn super quickly. They're also known for being affectionate and love to be active, so don't expect them to just lounge around the house all day, checking themselves out in the mirror.
Poodles are such popular pets that they were even selected to be part of the sought-after "designer" dog breed, the Goldendoodle, likely due to their low-allergen coat.
If they're good enough for Lady Gaga, they're good enough for you, right? French bulldogs, or "Frenchies," have recently been ranking in the top five of most popular dog breeds… and they've definitely earned it.
Part of their popularity is due to their reputation for being very low maintenance. These dogs can get along with anyone and, with those comically large bat ears and adorable faces, they make friends everywhere they go. Just be prepared for the attention.
Also, in case you haven't heard one before, Frenchies are known for their unique, almost humorous bark that doesn't sound like any other dog on the planet. They're tiny little jokers that are full of personality.
#3) The Puli
If you're looking for a white dog breed that is as unique as you are, look no further than the Puli. While they may look a lot like a mop, they're definitely not the type to just lay around.
The Puli coat is actually made out of individual dreadlocks or "cords". The dogs aren't born this way, but their fur will naturally dread up with proper care at about eight months of age. Don't let their locked look full you. Maintaining a Puli's coat, especially a white Puli, requires devotion if you want to keep them clean and stain-free.
Puli's are also naturally acrobatic, active dogs who love to run and are natural herders. Because of that, Pulis need to be intellectually engaged and have a job to be happy. But they pay back all of that work by being incredibly loyal, loving dogs that will definitely make you the center of attention.
#4) The Chihuahua
Not everyone wants a big white dog that requires a lot of work and energy. Sometimes, you just want a dog you can carry around like a true fur baby. And there really isn't a breed on Earth that is more well-known for being able to go anywhere with you than the chihuahua.
The chihuahua has always been a favorite of the people who really know the breed, but they massively gained popularity after Paris Hilton first carried around Tinkerbell during The Simple Life. Since then, people have happily carried well-dressed chihuahuas around in designer purses.
So, if you want a dog that can play its fur baby role to a tee, the chihuahua may be the white dog breed for you. But make sure that you keep them socialized because they can get aggressive if they spend all of their time being carried around and pampered with little exposure to other people and pets. In other words, don't spoil your baby!
#5) The American Eskimo
When it comes to fluffy white dog breeds, American Eskimos are one of the best. They come in both standard, miniature, and toy varieties, so you can pick a size that works best for your life and your space.
While American Eskimos are beautiful, loyal, and smart, they are heavy shedders, so prepare ahead of time with pet hair rollers stashed in your car, purse, and dresser drawers! They can also be a little standoffish with strangers, so don't expect them to bond immediately with everyone they meet.
Despite that, American Eskimos are generally described as being playful, perky, and smart. They are also considered to be very easy to train, so they're great for families who want to put extra time and energy into having a dog that can do a whole bunch of tricks.
#6) The Siberian Husky
Even if you don't know many dog breeds, we're pretty sure that you've heard of the Husky. Huskies are high-energy dogs that have hilarious personalities. They are known for being super vocal, and they tend to have opinions about everything.
Despite that, Huskies are friendly dogs that love to play. Since they were bred as sled dogs, they need to live an active lifestyle that engages their brains on a regular basis or they get bored. Bored huskies can be destructive! Huskies also tend to be heavy shedders, which is especially noticeable with white-coated dogs.
The Siberian Husky really thrives in an environment where it feels like it is part of a pack. That means they shouldn't be left alone for long periods of time and shouldn't be isolated from the family by being outside dogs. If you treat them like family, they're lifelong companions that will be loyal until the end.
#7) The Coton de Tulear
You may not have heard of the Coton de Tulear, but it's time that changes! These dogs are great family pets because they have sweet, loving personalities and are generally very good with children. Their coats are incredibly soft, but they are also very low maintenance, making them great dogs for people who haven't owned a pet before. They're also known for not having too many health problems, which is a big bonus!
The name comes from the texture of its coat, which has been described as similar to a cotton ball, and the city where they are thought to come from, Tulear in Madagascar. In fact, Coton de Tulears are the only breed to have ever been known to have originated from that country!
It is important to note that Coton de Tulear and most of the other similar breeds (Havanese, Maltese, and Bichon Frise) can be harder to housebreak than other dogs. Because they are smaller, they also have smaller bladders, so they need to go out frequently. They also need to be close to their families and prone to separation anxiety if left alone.
#8) The Maltese
Much like the Coton de Tulear, Maltese are known for being small, white, and incredibly soft. Because of their size, the softness of their coat, and their sweet, loving personalities, they are regularly referred to as one of the top lap dog breeds in the world.
As we said before, Maltese dogs can be tough to housebreak. However, they require very minimal exercise and are otherwise fairly easy to train. They are also minimal shedders, so they can spend all day on your lap without leaving a full coat of hair behind. And, with their sweet faces that stay puppy-like for life, they're absolutely impossible not to fall in love with.
#9) The West Highland White Terrier
If you want all the great qualities of a terrier packed into a compact size, check out the West Highland White Terrier. Also known as a "Westie," West Highland White Terriers are full of energy, exuberance, and playfulness. They also come exclusively in white, as the name would suggest.
Westies are so popular because they are fun to play with but also comfortable as lapdogs. While their coat isn't the softest on the list, they make up for their lack of fabulous fluff with their larger-than-life personalities.
#10) The Kuvasz
We wanted to end the list with one of the rarest white dog breeds out there and one of the very few that comes exclusively in white. The Kuvasz is from Hungary, where it was known for guarding royalty. They are big (over 100 pounds full grown) and extra fluffy, with a double coat, meant to keep them warm in the winter.
Kuvasz dogs are incredibly loyal to their owners and have a sweet face that you can't help but fall in love with. If you want a white dog breed that basically nobody else has, this is the dog for you!
In Summary
When you have your mind set on adding a white dog into your family, you have plenty of options. From the super small toy breeds like chihuahuas and toy poodles to the bigger, fluffier Kuvasz and Siberian Huskies, there's a breed to match your lifestyle and your aesthetic.
